Exploring Amed in Rainy Season
Part II - Chasing the Black Sand Beach
In the midst of the rainy season, Amed unveiled its charms with a surprisingly pleasant weather—cool temperatures and just a scattering of clouds, perfect for our beach exploration from dawn till dusk. Our journey took us from Amed to Gretek, tracing the coastline and delving into the heart of this mesmerizing region.
Amidst the verdant savanna of Nusu, Mount Agung loomed majestically, exuding a spiritual aura that captivated our senses. Each glance bestowed upon the mighty volcano revealed a different facet of its grandeur, leaving us in awe of its timeless allure.
Venturing into the savanna, we encountered a landscape unlike any other in Bali. Exotic and reminiscent of African savannas, albeit devoid of wildlife, the scenery offered breathtaking vistas of Amed and the vast expanse of the sea beyond.
Our quest for the elusive black sand beach led us through Tianyar and Gretek, where we explored numerous coastal gems. Despite our efforts, the black sand beach remained elusive, its shores scattered with small rocks rather than the dark sands we had hoped to find.
Amidst our search, serendipity led us to a hidden gem: the restaurant at Kirana Tembok Hotel. Nestled by the ocean and surrounded by swaying coconut palms, the restaurant offered a tranquil oasis complete with a refreshing swimming pool. Indulging in delectable cuisine amidst such serene surroundings was an experience to savor, tempting us to linger for hours.
As evening descended, we sought out a local favorite for dinner: Warung Hoky Homestay & Eat. Located along the main road, this unassuming eatery boasted freshly grilled fish caught by the owner himself during his daily fishing expeditions. The mastery of the grill yielded succulent, flavorful dishes at a remarkably fair price, leaving us craving for more.
Reflecting on our adventure-filled day, spanning from Amed to Gretek and beyond, we reveled in the discoveries made along the way. From pristine beaches to charming eateries and local warungs, each encounter enriched our experience and left an indelible mark on our memories.
As our time in Amed drew to a close, we couldn't help but marvel at the tranquility and beauty that had captivated us for five unforgettable days. Amed had transformed from a mere stopover into a sanctuary of relaxation and exploration—a place where time seemed to stand still amidst the rhythmic lullaby of the waves.
